THREADS OF USEFUL LEARNING: WESTTOWN SCHOOL SAMPLERS by Mary Uhl Brooks is an engaging look at the collection of needlework currently held in the Westtown School archives. Documenting works produced by Westtown students from 1799 through 1843, this 346 page catalog showcases the importance of this unique and robust collection of Quaker schoolgirl needlework. Through the inclusion of assets from the rich archives of the school such as papers, accounts and personal artifacts, the stories about the education, religious beliefs and lives of the teachers and girls who created the samplers come alive in an intimate and textural way.
It's just gorgeous - breathtakingly so! Wonderfully large, and beautiful to hold and touch. Of course, I can't wait to read it!
